Why it matters
Using the correct mating connector keeps an accessory installation cleaner and more serviceable than cutting the main light harness. The pigtail can be wired to the accessory while preserving a disconnect point between the motorcycle harness and the added device.
Connector selection
The connector family must match the C3 harness already on the motorcycle. The 2-pin pigtail is for CALI157x-series harnesses only, while the 3-pin pigtail is for CALI174x-series harnesses only. These connector styles are not interchangeable. C3 LED lights that are designed for these harnesses already have their matching connector, so a separate pigtail is not required when connecting one supported light in the normal way.
